Health & Beauty Bar Event A Hit At Youth Outreach! PDF Print E-mail

img_3924_website.jpg This month, to celebrate National Women’s Health Week (May 9-15), Waikiki Health Center hosted a free “Health & Beauty Bar” for more than 30 homeless teens at our Youth Outreach (YO) facility.

Designed to educate participants on good health and wellness habits, the backyard of the “YO cottage” played host to a variety of educational and feel-good opportunities. Activities included traditional lomi lomi massages, makeup giveaways/makeovers, haircuts by the Ulupono Academy (a Paul Mitchell school), and interactive nutrition and wellness games.

National Women’s Health Week encourages all women (and their friends and community support systems) to live longer, healthier and happier lives by making their health and well-being a priority.

Here's what some of our participants had to say about the Health & Beauty Bar:

"It was great! The people were really nice, and weren't prissy or stuck up."

"I liked the healthy food like the bananas and nuts - it was a nice change from what we normally have."

"We should have events like these more often. They are a treat for homeless people who are just trying to survive out there."
