Friendly Neighbors, a volunteer-based program, helps
Waikiki seniors maintain their independence at home by providing companionship and assistance.
The program benefits volunteers as well, who meet people with shared interests and make new friends. Not only do volunteers include caring community members, but also nursing and social work students gaining practical experience.
 Friendly Neighbors services include:
- Friendly visits, letters and phone calls
- Escorting clients to medical visits
- Monitoring blood pressure and other medical assistance
- Picking up prescriptions
- Grocery shopping assistance
- Light household chores
- Exercise and other activities
- Respite services for caregivers
